Malaysia Airlines in the red again with net loss of almost $68m
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Struggling flag carrier Malaysia Airlines said on Tuesday that it has recorded a second consecutive quarterly loss after failing to overcome drag from earlier borrowings.
The airline said it made an operating profit of 7.9 million ringgit (S$3,1 million) in the second quarter ending June 30 but still ended up with a net loss of 175.2 million (S$67.81 million) mainly due to unrealised foreign exchange losses.

TOKYO, Japan (AFP) - AirAsia Japan has said the budget carrier will cancel hundreds of flights over two months before it ceases operations under the current brand at the end of October.
AirAsia Japan, operated jointly by Malaysia-based AirAsia and major Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA), will suspend 14 daily flights from Sept 1 to Oct 26, according to a company statement.

Kerajaan berkongsi keuntungan hasil pelaksanaan Sistem Penguatkuasaan Automatik (AES) bersama kroni dengan cara membebankan rakyat, kata Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (Adun) Bandar, Azan Ismail.
Beliau mengulas jawapan bertulis Menteri Pengangkutan, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein di Dewan Rakyat semalam bahawa kerajaan berjaya mengutip sebanyak RM20,020,500 juta kompaun hasil AES bermula 11 Jun 2013 hingga 23 September 2012 dengan kutipan lebih kurang 10 peratus.

By Ida Lim - KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 — Putrajaya’s full show of military might on Tuesday against the Sulu militants in Sabah could be politically calculated to impress Malaysian voters ahead of Election 2013, a Manila-based paper has said.
In an editorial titled “Consequences”, the Philippine Daily Inquireryesterday noted that both the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and the federal opposition had attempted to outshine each other in pushing for tough action on the estimated 200-odd armed Filipinos that had intruded into Sabah’s east coast more than three weeks ago.

AirAsia close to major new Airbus deal

NEW YORK (REUTERS) - Malaysia's AirAsia is putting the finishing touches to a deal to buy up to 100 Airbus passenger jets as it expands internationally, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.
The deal, potentially worth around US$9 billion (S$11.2 billion), is designed to fuel the growth of what is fast becoming a cluster of related airlines under AirAsia's founder Tony Fernandes, who placed a record order for Airbus jets last year.

Thousands visit Legoland in Malaysia - before it even opens

JOHOR BARU (ANN) - Thousands of excited and curious visitors have been visiting Legoland Malaysia to take photographs and admire the exterior although the park is only scheduled to open on Sept 15.
Some visitors were there to collect annual passes but the majority were only there to get a first glimpse of the much-talked-about theme park.

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - An international musicians' group has called for a global boycott of recruitment by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), saying the symphony sacked nine members without cause.
The Paris-based International Federation of Musicians (IFM) posted on its website a strongly-worded attack on the sackings, in a rare note of discord in the usually genteel world of symphony music.

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad underwent 'minor surgery' in hospital on Tuesday, his aide said.
The 86-year-old long-time leader was admitted to a hospital in the capital of Kuala Lumpur early on Tuesday for the hour-long surgery to remove nasal polyps, his aide Sufi Yusoff said in a statement.

China prostitute earns $6,150 in two weeks

GEORGE TOWN (ANN) - A Chinese national who made RM15,040 (S$6,151) in just two weeks working as a prostitute was among three women rounded up at a service apartment block in Bukit Dumbar here.
Sources said the woman, in her 20s, had 'serviced' 88 clients since coming to Penang as a tourist.
