Indonesia president warns of Europe's impact on Asia

JAKARTA (AFP) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Europe's economic woes could hit South-east Asia and warned the region against copying the integrated euro zone model, in comments printed on Wednesday.
Mr Yudhoyono told the Wall Street Journal that the slowdown in China's economic growth, stoked by weak demand from Europe, will 'impact directly on the economy in this region'.

Japan's Suzuki recalls over 100,000 Swifts worldwide

TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's Suzuki Motor said on Monday it will recall about 109,000 Swift subcompact cars worldwide, half of them in Japan, to repair a defect that may cause petrol leakage.
The cars were produced between September 2010 and last month with 55,146 of them shipped to the domestic market and 53,801 others exported outside the country, including Australia, Mexico, and Europe, a company spokesman said.

NEW YORK (AP) - Beyonce is accustomed to getting awards for writing songs, but now she's earned one for writing a magazine piece.
The New York chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists will award Beyonce the first-place prize in arts and entertainment in its magazine category for a story she wrote for Essence magazine.
