Berlusconi gets slight boost in sxx and abuse of power trial

ROME (AFP) - Italy's Silvio Berlusconi was given a slight boost on Wednesday in his trial for abuse of power and paying for sxx with a 17-year-old girl, when the Senate voted to move the trial to a special ministers' court.

The Italian prime minister, a defendant in three ongoing trials, has been accused of paying for sxx last year with a Moroccan-born nightclub dancer Karima El Mahroug, known as 'Ruby the Heart Stealer', when she was just 17.
Mr Berlusconi is also suspected of abusing his powers by having the girl sprung from police custody when she was arrested in May 2010 for alleged theft - a move prosecutors say was an attempt to hide his sxx crime.
The upper house voted 151 to 129 in favour of a 'conflict of attribution' motion which argues that the abuse of power charge should be considered by a special ministers' court and not the Milan court which brought the charges.
