Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has lauded outgoing President S R Nathan for raising the standing of Singapore's highest public office both locally and internationally.
He said the former diplomat brought a wealth of experience built up over a lifetime - in government, labour movement and the private sector - to the presidency over the past 12 years.

'Singaporeans will remember you as a warm and approachable president. You treated everyone with respect, and went out of your way to meet different groups and understand their challenges and aspirations,' said Mr Lee.
He also outlined Mr Nathan's contributions in various areas, such as championing charitable work for the needy and disadvantaged, and fostering Singapore's friendly ties with many countries through his overseas visits.
