HOST Singapore slumped to their second defeat at the World Netball Championship after losing 70-33 to South Africa on Tuesday night.
Roared on by local support at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the Republic had taken a surprise 15-13 lead after the first quarter.
But that only seemed to stir their Pool C opponents, who proceeded to outscore Singapore 57-18 in the remaining three quarters to claim their first victory at the quadrennial tournament.
Singapore will next face pre-tournament favourites Jamaica, ranked fourth in the world, in their final Pool encounter on Wednesday.
In other matches, defending champions Australia hammered Northern Ireland 75-33 and world No. 1 New Zealand romped to a 91-21 victory against a helpless Wales.
The eight-day tournament ends this Sunday.
