LONDON - US PRESIDENT Barack Obama arrived at Downing Street for talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday on dealing with the Arab Spring and on winding down the decade-long war in Afghanistan.
He and Mr Cameron will give a joint press conference after the talks, and will also swing by a barbecue given by their wives Michelle Obama and Samantha Cameron in a 'thank you' to US and British servicemen and their families.
Mr Cameron and Mr Obama shook hands outside the famous black door of 10 Downing Street after the US leader was driven in his armoured limousine from Buckingham Palace where he spent the night as a guest of Queen Elizabeth II.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the Nato-led military mission in Libya, amid calls from European nations for more US help to end the stalemate between rebels and Muammar Gaddafi's forces.
They are also set to cover preparations for pulling out western combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. The Times newspaper said they would iron out differences on talking to the Taleban.
The meeting on the final day of Mr Obama's state visit to Britain sees the American leader swapping the pomp of Tuesday's royal ceremonies for the intricacies of diplomacy. -- AFP
