THE Korean Pop Wave here turned into a tsunami this year, powered by sold-out concerts that saw fans queuing overnight for tickets and the best seats.
Close to 30 Korean pop acts performed in Singapore, attracting thousands of screaming fans to each event.
Given the hysteria of fans camping overnight for entry into showcases as well as the stampede for tickets costing as much as $258, K-pop tops the Entertainment Power List. And to think the fans probably do not understand a word that their idols are singing.
One of the big players which emerged in the past year is Mr Aloysius Leo, owner of six-year-old event management company Proof Label, which organised the biggest K-pop concert this year.
The Korean Pop Night Concert 2010 held at the Singapore Expo in October caused bedlam at 313@Somerset when tickets went on sale. Close to 2,000 people showed up at the shopping mall a day early to queue for tickets, which led to a huge human jam.
More than 8,700 fans attended the concert, which featured the biggest acts in South Korea, including all-time favourite girl group Girls' Generation and boybands Big Bang and Shinee. The most expensive tickets went for $258, while the cheapest ones were priced at $118. It was a sell-out event.
