JAKARTA - A 6.0-MAGNITUDE quake hit Indonesia's North Sumatra province on Saturday, the local Meteorological and Geophysics agency said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties and no tsunami alert.
The quake struck at a depth of 10km, 18km north-west of Panyabungan at 9.11am (0211 GMT, 10.11am), according to the agency.
The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 5.4.
'The quake was felt quite strongly. Many people panicked,' Mandailing Natal district police chief Hirbak Wahyu said.
'The situation has returned to normal now. There are no reports of victims or damage,' he said.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire', where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity. -- AFP
