THE monster music festival that is F1 Rocks threatened to derail after a disastrous opening night but was saved in the end, thanks to Beyonce Knowles.

By the time the R&B star was through with her 75 minute-long set, the sound crashes of the first night on Thursday were, if not forgotten, then almost certainly forgiven.

Oozing class, just the right amount of sex appeal, temperature-raising dance moves and an impeccable voice, she put on a dazzling post-midnight show to ensure that the inaugural music festival officially tied to the Formula One races ended with a bang.

The 75-million record-selling singer went through five costume changes.

She performed her solo hits such as Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and a medley of hits from her former group, Destiny's Child, with a 13-strong all-female band and eight male and female dancers.

And the sound system, which crashed on almost every act on the first night featuring Chinese acts such as Jacky Cheung and A*mei, held up just fine.

It had better be fine, since the crew took two hours to prepare the stage for Beyonce after Black Eyed Peas performed.
