BHUBANESWAR (India) - INDIA on Sunday successfully tested a surface-to-surface version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile which it has developed jointly with Russia, officials said.

The missile was fired from a mobile launcher 200 kilometres northeast of Bhubaneswar, the capital of the eastern state of Orissa.

'The test of surface-to-surface version of BrahMos was successful and matched all the mission objectives", director of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea S.P. Dash told AFP.

Last tested on March 21, BrahMos has a range of 290 kilometres and can carry a 300-kilogramme conventional warhead.

The missile is named after India's Brahmaputra River and Russia's Moskva River. -- AFP
